- Arizona State Civilian Shooting Team

- The shooters would travel on mainly dirt roads from all of the states to Camp Perry in
vehicles that had problems going across the street, let alone all the way back east to
Camp Perry to compete in the National Matches. This had to be a great adventure. And very
dedicated shooters.
- Standing Left to Right as remembered: Fred Gallager - Tucson, 20 years of
age, who later was prisoner who went through the "Battan Death March". 5th
from Left Harry V. Chambers - Tucson, 16 years of age, who later went on to direct the
Tucson Light & Power Company. 6th from Left Walter Chambers, No relation to
Harry Chambers. No other information. 7th from Left George Parker, 18 years of age,
went on to become a U.S. Boarder Patrolman, WWII sniper and an NRA Leader.
- Front Row Center Team Advisor: Name Unknown. Seated to the right of the
Advisor Mr. Skuelly, Phoenix, the oldest member of the team and well known barrel
maker named. To the right of Mr. Skuelly Army Infantry Lt, Name Unknown Right
End Herb Chambers Jr., Age 18 and older brother of Harry Chambers.

- Interesting note: During WWII, Col. Herb Chambers USAAC, 97th Bomb Group 12th Air
Force was introduced to an older Army Capt. who as it turned out was the same Army Lt.
Team Advosior from Camp Perry. Small World, in the shooting fraternity. If anyone knows
the names of those not mentioned, please feel free to e-mail us and we will include their
names.
- A bit of Camp Perry History
- During the 1920's States certainly sent their best shooters. There were State Teams, not
"Senior Teams" And "Junior Teams" just "One Team".
The firearms used at the Nationals were often issued at Camp Perry.
Shooters from various states would look through the racks for firearms that they had
either used in years past, or for "Star Gauge Barrels", or "Lands"
that started on the "Top" of the barrel, or what ever was issued to them at
issue time. Shooters used issued equipment only!!
