Lindsey, Just wanted to say - "You guys rock!" I knew nothing about the CMP program until a few months ago. I saw a reference on a website, and looked into it further. Then I saw that there would be a group here in the Phoenix area for the "Western Games" and made a point to go up there to check it out. The staff people at the Games were exceptionally helpful and informative, and the service since then has been great. I received my CMP rifles today (a few weeks sooner than I expected) and am very happy with my experience. The ammo is in the mail - ditto! **Please pass along my thanks to the organization** Randy D.

CMP:Sorry to have to write a letter such as this. I'm not at all mad, just disappointed. I recently purchased from you a surplus Mossberg 44US. My main reason for purchase was the glowing reports I had been reading on Rimfire Central about the condition of the rifles people were receiving. Many of them described their rifles as "almost new" and "virtually unfired". I took those reports with a grain of salt but thought I would go against all my past luck (I got a "used" Kimber from you a year ago that looked as if it had been dragged behind a truck) and try again.  The Mossberg I got was, again, not at all typical of what I have heard reported. It does not fall to the level of being a misrepresentation, because you were pretty accurate in your description. It was HEAVILY used, with dings, scratches and outright gouges all over it. The blueing was heavily scratched, in many case deeply. Nord luck again, I guess. After literally 30 hours of work, it is finally presentable. Thanks for allowing me to vent; the situation is not your fault. Guess I should just finally learn that if I want a nice one, I should drive the six hundred miles and pick one out myself. Regards, David M. N.

I have been a CMP customer for the past 20 years. I have bought 03's, Garand's , and M1 carbines, at least one of every manufacturer of all these rifles. I have always been pleased with every purchase. Once I even got what appeared to be a brand new Springfield Garand. My last purchase was a correct grade H&R Garand. At 100 yards it was right on. Thanks for all your help in making my collection complete. Chuck B.

Recently I took delivery on my first CMP Garand,... a rack grade with the intention of building a match rifle. What I received had a rack tag attached to it. The receiver is an S.A. 6 digit, (Jan. 42), without rust or pits, the trigger housing is also S.A. as is the bolt, hammer and op-rod all have single digit suffix numbers, the gas cylinder is small base. The barrel is 43 and gages rack criteria but just barely. All other parts prove to be prior 1944. The stock had seen better days but cleaned up very well without sanding and all cartouches, including the G.A.W. are well established. The rear sight is post WWII. Now I'm not sure,.... but either someone at CMP is going to get into trouble,.. I'm lucky,.. or there is a God. While not 'correct',... it is nearly and I'm not going to touch this rifle and it will stay just the way shipped until the day I die. A nearly perfect example of a grand ol battle rifle. Sure wish it could talk. Due to a minor mix up which was my fault,.... the rifle arrived later than I expected, but the ladies at CMP took the situation personal proving what real service should be everywhere. And what a treat to chat with and listen to the sweetest southern accent imaginable. Now then,... what to do for a competition Garand,... guess I have to try again, and hope the folks at CMP send something I won't mind building on. Is this a great problem or what ?? Thanks folks,.... oh,... and trust it ,... when y'all send conformation of my next order,.. I WILL be calling to check up once a week at least ,.... just hope one of the guys doesn't answer the phone. Randy P.

My recent purchase of a Kimber Model 82 .22 cal target rifle, was perhaps the most satisfactory purchasing experience of my life.  >From my initial contact with your sales staff (Sharron), through my receipt of the catalogue to placement of my order and receiving the rifle today, six days after the order was received and posted, is simply phenomenal.  It can't get any better than that and the product speaks for itself...a wonderful piece of equipment.  I could not be more pleased.  Thank you very, very much.  Gene D .

To all at CMP.   Want to thank whoever involved in selection and shipping of my recent purchase of a service grade M1.  Two weeks and two days from order to Fed Ex man at my door.  When I opened box, I was initialy disapointend with the appearance of the wood.  Very dark and many dings.  But then I got looking and checking numbers.  Looking better!  Took it to a much more knowledgable friend for him to check numbers against Scott Duff's data.  Rifle is SA, in serial range 3,4XX,XXX.  Looks like Jan 45.  Barrel is SA 1-45.  Almost all other parts are correct dash numbers for the serial number block.  Uncut op rod, lockbar sight, SA over GAW cartouche with ord mark, smaller ord mark also on heel of grip, circled P on grip. My friend thinks it should be a correct grade and wanted to buy it from me.  Took it to the 100 yard range, 5 shots to get sights somewhere in ball park, then put 39 of 43 in the b lack of an SR1 target.  Needless to say, I am VERY pleased.  Thank you all, for making an old Marine, 59-64, (who last shot an M1 27 years ago) very happy.  Jay E .

Good Morning,  Friday 10-17-2008 I received the new stock set I had ordered for my M1 Garand. The weapon was built in the late 1950's and was my first, it also came from CMP. The stock took all of one half hour to install, and my Springfield looked brand new. My only suggestion would be a little more padding in the shipping container. The stock was a little beat up but nothing that can't be cleaned up.  Thank You . Richard E. B .

I received my Service Grade M1 Garand 10 days ago, and 2 days later the ammunition arrived. My Rifle is in great condition.  I had a few questions initially, and along the way, all were answered.  The folks of CMP are wonderful...very patient, and courteous. It is a rare occasion to find a "Staff" that totally puts service and the customer first.  Sincere Thanks from an old vet in California. Robert S.

I would like to report to you about my experience at the Western CMP Games held at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility (Black Canyon) Phoenix, Arizona. My friend and I took his travel trailer and stayed at the range for 4 nights for $25 per day for electric and water hookups, and sewage dump facility. We fired the "as-issued" John C Garand Course A (35 rounds total including 5 spotter rounds) on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I could have fired my Springfield 03A3 any day, but decided to work on my Garand ability (or lack thereof). They had really nice medals with a red, white and blue ribbon neck ribbon for those making the cut scores (which were adjusted down due to the very windy conditions). We also fired the .22 Rimfire Sporter and M-1 Carbine matches which were held after the Garand matches on Sunday and Monday. The CMP staff had everything really well organized and the matches went off very quickly which was nice as my skin can't take a lot of sun. The .22 Rimfire Sporter match was fired on the range which has cover so that was a relief from the sun. Also, it was nice to be able to shoot against Gunnery Sergeant R. Lee Ermey who is a darn good shooter and a really nice guy to talk to. Next year we plan on staying the entire week and shoot both the CMP games and the Creedmoor Cup Matches. Sincerely, JIM D.

CMP, I received my service grade Garand and ammo that I had purchased for it last month. The rifle is in great shape and shoots great. The time it took to order my rifle was less than what I expected and I am very pleased with the whole purchase. I hope to do more business with you in the future. Chris R.

Hello CMP,  Rec. my 1903 C stock today and could not be happier. You guy hit a home run with your supplier for these. A near perfect drop in fit, just a bit of sanding at front band, took all of about 20 minutes to mount completely. Thanks for the great product at a fair price.  Tony M .Virginia

Orest authorized my first Garand purchase a over a year ago during the Camp Perry 2007 match. We have purchase a couple more Garand thereafter. The Garand rifle is incredible to shoot. The CMP staff is always outstanding. I was fortunate to receive two bronze medals, It was incredible. I feel like a small boy again. CMP offers the best product for the money and service is unquestionably the best. Thanks for all the fun, we are scheduling next year's trip already. Erwin G. Sr and Jr

Dear CMP,  I recently had ordered some 30-06 in cartons which came in the spam can.  When I opened it, I immediately noticed the inside of the can was rusted.  Well, turns out I had just over 2 boxes that were corroded most of which were beyond cleaning.  I wrote not intending to receive anything in return, but to ask if other folks had experienced the same thing, as I had ordered more ammunition in clips in the spam can, and thought maybe spam can ammunition should be avoided.  Well today I was sitting in the living room when the FedEx driver showed up and low and behold handed me a box of 42 rounds from the CMP, the same number I had wrote about that were bad.  I am still blown away by the attention to customer service you provide.  Even though no guarantee is implied, you still go the extra mile.  If only other organizations were as good as you.  I am still thrilled like a kid who just got a new toy.  By the way, the clip ammunition I received in the spam can was great.  Thanks again for the personal service that it seems only you provide.  Sincerely, Tom H, 29 Palms, California

CMP...just received the stock set for my 03 Springfield....WHAT A BEAUTY..   you guys do an awesome job....now, if you would just make some stock sets for the carbines...(hint, hint) all my rifles would match. Thanks to all for your service. Richard W. S .

Dear CMP , I ordered a service grade Springfield M1 Garand.I was very nervous because I have never purchased a rifle without inspecting it first.I was like a little boy at Christmas time as I open the well packaged box the rifle was packed between two thick foam pieces.I then inspected the rifle after picking myself up off the floor. No rust no pitting my uncle use to be a hunters safety instructor we field stripped the rifle and he commented this rifle looks to have been shot very little or not at all. The stock does have a few nicks however I am very pleased with the service and attention to detail that CMP offers. I would also like to add I have had a couple calls from customer service one was about signing on to the website and there was a price increase both the ladies were out standing. Thank you .  Mike/Ca

I received my "correct grade" M1 Garand in Sept. 08. Cosmetically, it is in fantastic condition. After field stripping it and doing some minimal cleaning, I look forward to shooting it my local range. Your service was excellent and I received the rifle within 10 days of my order. The shipping container arrived without any damage to it. This whole transaction far exceeded my expectations. Continue your good work. Thanks. Lee L.

Lindsey : I received my order last Friday 2 Oct 08.  I didn’t really know what to expect, but what I got sure exceeded all my expectations.  I had only 10 minutes to look the rifle over before I had to leave for the evening but my first thoughts were that it looked as good as the new M1A I bought a few year back.  On Sunday, when I got to really look at it I realized it wasn’t “New In Box” but it still looked great for a rifle I assume is over 50 years old.  I can’t wait to shoot it at the upcoming Garand Match at our club.  Please pass on my appreciation to all who help make these rifles available.  Thanks Again . Ray A. Ms.L. Williams, So often people will take the time to complain about a customer service issue but will not make any effort to provide any feedback if something goes well. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you of just a few of my positive experiences when dealing with the CMP: 1. I purchased a GARAND at the North Store during the National Matches this summer and did not have the opportunity to fire it until the middle of this past Sept. it is a wonderful shooter but it was ,"throwing," the operating rod out of the track of the receiver. I called and was able to talk to an armorer who was patient and very helpful, he instructed me to send the operating rod back to the CMP and they would send me another one. I did that and your turnaround time was incredibly fast and the operating rod that you sent me is of an outstanding condition.( I just got the operating rod yesterday) 2. In the past when dealing by phone with your sales staff from the South Store they have been courtious, patient, prompt, efficient, and never seem to fail to do as they have promised. I have never gotten the feeling that I have been,"lost in the shuffle,". If anything I was not as patient and understanding as I should have been. 3. In the past I have managed to be able to visit the North Store at least twice yearly since I believe 2006 and every time it has been a pleasant experience. Your staff at Camp Perry was just as courtious, patient, prompt, efficient, and conscientious as your staff at the South Store, regardless of how crowded or busy it may been. 4. I was able to attend and partake in National Match events the last two years and both years the CMP Staff was oustanding along with the facility. I would also like to take the time to say that I like the changes and improvements to the Camp Perry Facilities. I really appreciated the new mess hall facility. In general my dealings with the CMP have been very positive and always a pleasure. The CMP is clearly a great organization that has a wonderful group of individuals that work and volunteer for them and the sport. I hope you continue to be this type of organization. THANK-YOU VERY MUCH       Respectfully Gary R. S .

I just received a Saginaw S' G' M-1 Carbine that I won on auction ! I am really pleased with the condition & promptness of delivery ! Everyone I have spoken to in CMP South has been cordial & very helpful ! I would like to personally thank each & everyone of you !  G.R .B .

October 6, 2008

Hello, I just wanted to drop a belated thank-you for my wonderful Garand. I asked for a rifle that would shoot well and had been manufactured during WWII, since so many family members carried it during that time period and during the Korean war. When firing the rifle, I can really feel a historical connection, almost as though the rifle takes me back to my family members. And once I zeroed the sights on the Service-grade Garand you sent me, I was able to blast clay pigeons with the first round, every round, from 200 yards!! I'd rather carry that M1 to battle than my assigned M16! Once again, thank you for your outstanding products and commitment to service! - Al .

Just wanted to say thanks and let you know how pleased I am with my latest purchase. I bought a service grade 1917 and expected it to be well used and probably somewhat abused. The rifle is beautiful. I can’t wait to order a 1903 if they become available (and yes, I know the next one might have more character than this one). Thanks again,   Gurney K

My first order and I want to send Thanks to Everyone at CMP south for the three service grade Garands And the prompt service. I was delighted with their condition.  Thanks so much . Stanley P .

Dear Mr. Michaels:  For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to own an M1 Garand, but until now had never seriously considered buying one because, as is so often the case, a large percentage of folks in law enforcement often times don't have an over-abundance of disposable income.  I have been aware of the CMP for a number of years, and the opportunity that it provided to civilians to enable them to purchase surplus rifles at a reasonable price.   And, the only hope that I felt I ever had of being able to purchase one was through the CMP.  So, for a couple of years, I considered joining a CMP affiliated club.  However, since there are no CMP affiliated organizations in my city, and the closest one is over an hour away from me, I finally gave up the idea of ever being able to acquire an M1.

Then, just recently, a friend suggested that I check out your website, which I did.  After reading the eligibility requirements and seeing that law enforcement officers apparently met some of the eligibility requirements, my level of interest immediately shot back up, so I called the customer service telephone number listed on your website.... which (after a couple of paragraphs of rambling) brings me to the reason that I'm writing to you.  I just wanted to take a few minutes to let you know that my first, and so far only, phone call to CMP made such a positive impression on me that I immediately decided to break down and buy my FIRST rifle from CMP.  The lady that I spoke with was Melissa Smith, and I want you to know that she is a true asset to you and your organization!   She was so courteous, helpful, and friendly; answering every one of my questions, knowledgeably, in a manner that that put all of my reservations and concerns at ease.  She sounded as if she enjoys her job and truly wanted to be of service to me, the customer!

My conversation with her, coupled with subsequent, informative e-mails from her concerning the status of my order, and from what I have been able to read on the internet about your organization's customer service department, has led me to contact you just to let you know that you and your co-workers are to be commended for doing such an outstanding job!  I am SO pleased with the of level of quality service and friendly employees there at CMP.   I just wish that all businesses across the country would try to serve customers in the way that your folks do.  Keep up the good work!  Would you please be so kind as to convey my gratitude to Melissa and the rest of your customer service department?    Although I'm a grown man in my fifties, I am now eagerly awaiting the arrival of my "new" M1.  I feel as excited as a little kid... I can't wait to see it!    Thank you for your time.  Respectfully,  Mark L .

October 2, 2008

Dear CMP,  You are excellent!  I received my Correct Grade M1 rifle in 15 days time and took it to the gunsmith for cleaning.  He said that all of the parts fit so tightly that he could barely unfasten them.  He thinks that the M1 has never been fired and he jokingly told me that I should by a service grade to shoot and keep my Correct Grade as a collectors item.  Thank you very much for the best rifle in the world, the prompt service and the superb organization.  God bless you.  Dan H .

October 1, 2008

While not the manufacture I wanted, the Eddystone M1917 was in very good condition. After cleaning it up, I took it out to the range. The bore was black and there appeared to be little rifling, especially at the muzzle, but I still consistently hit the 500 yd target with iron sites. It's another love story. While I love my other rifles, the M1917 has stolen my heart. Every one of the CMP rifles I have purchased have been good lookers and great shooters. The staff, I am certain, is overworked and underpaid and yet they have also been very consistent in their excellent customer support. Thank You for quality products and service. Robert C. I .
