Anti wins Olympic Silver in Three-Position Rifle Shooting - Maj. Michael Anti, a marksman in the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program, won a silver medal Aug. 22 in men’s 50-meter three-position rifle shooting in the 2004 Summer Olympic Games.
2004 National Youth Shooting Sports Leadership Conference - The 2004 National Youth Shooting Sports Leadership Conference took place at Camp Perry, Ohio on 8-10 October. The conference is a bi-annual affair with its companion, the National Shooting Sports Coaches Conference, taking place at Colorado Springs in odd-numbered years. This year’s conference attracted 100 youth shooting leaders and coaches from around the country.

2004-2006 Three-Position Air Rifle Rules. The new National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules have now been published and are available on both the Internet and in printed form. The latest 2004-2006 version of the rules went into effect in September, to coincide with the start of the school year. These rules will remain in effect until the end of the summer in 2006. New Junior Pistol Program and New Junior Pistol. A new program recently announced by USA Shooting should give a much needed boost to junior pistol shooting in the United States. To answer the demand for a target-quality air pistol suitable for junior shooters, USA Shooting is importing and selling the TAU-7 air pistol for $375 each. This pistol weighs less than 30 ounces so it is ideal for young and new shooters. Check the USA Shooting web site at http://www.usashooting.com/news/NewsView.cfm?id=217 for details on the new program and instructions on how to order the new junior pistol. USAMU Reunion. The U. S. Army Marksmanship Unit was founded by an executive order signed by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1956. After 48 years of producing Army rifle and pistol teams and making significant contributions to USA Olympic and international teams, USAMU alumni now form a large, prestigious group. Reunions of this group are now organized by the USAMU alumni organization, the Military Marksmanship Association. The MMA’s 48th Reunion and Hall Induction is taking place this weekend, on 22-23 October, on USAMU facilities at Fort Benning, Georgia. USA Shooting Fall Skeet Selection Match. 15-year-old Vincent Hancock from Eatonville, Georgia was a surprise winner over veterans Todd Graves, Mark Weeks and Shawn Dulohery in the USA Shooting Fall Selection Match men’s skeet event at Colorado Springs. Hancock broke 270 of 275 targets. Connie Smotek from Bryan, Texas won the women’s title with a 257 x 275. Scores in this fall’s selection match constitute the first half of the trials for the 2005 USA World Shotgun Championship team. Greek Rack Grade Rifles. The CMP is currently selling rack grade M1 Garand rifles at the price of $295 plus shipping and handling. These rifles were loaned to the Greek Government and later returned to the U.S. Army. These rifles have all USGI parts but stocks and handguards may be either walnut, birch, beech, or other European wood. Rifles do not have import marks. USA Shooting, the national governing body for Olympic shooting recently announced the appointment of Buddy DuVall, Gainesville, Georgia as its Director of Marketing and Fundraising. He replaces Leaha Wirth, who resigned in September to take a position with Armor Holdings. DuVall was an international class pistol shooter who represented the USA in numerous international competitions. Before taking his new position with USA Shooting, he was a Regional Sales Manager for American BioMedica in Atlanta, Georgia. |

2004 National Youth Leadership John C. Garand Match - The National Youth Leadership Conference took place at Camp Perry the weekend of 8-11 October 2004. Many shooting sports leaders came to learn and exchange valuable information. One of the activities at the Youth Leadership Conference that attendees could participate in was the National Youth Leadership Garand Match.
NGB Junior Shooters Enjoy Success at International Matches - Ten junior shooters from precision rifle clubs in Palmyra, Pennsylvania and Spokane, Washington represented the United States at the 12th Annual Junior International Match held at Bisley, England 10 – 13 August. The 6 females and 4 males, aged 13 to 18, had been among the top finishers at the junior championship hosted earlier in the year by the National Guard Marksmanship Training Unit.

USA’s Dan Jordan Wins Silver Medal at the 2004 Paralympics - First-time Paralympian Dan Jordan of Franktown, Colorado broke a 20-year U.S. medal drought in Paralympic shooting action today, clinching a silver medal in the Men’s 3-Position Rifle event. Jordan’s silver marks the first American Paralympic shooting medal since 1984.
