Text Box: JROTC Championships Series Continues with Marine Corps and Air Force - On 20-21 February, the best junior three-position air rifle shooters representing all of the Marine Corps and Air Force JROTC units around the country made their way to Camp Perry, Ohio for second round of the 2009 JROTC Air Rifle Championship series being hosted by the Civilian Marksmanship Program.

Text Box: Eastern Games Military Pistol Events – The schedule and regulations for the As-Issued Military and Service Pistol Matches that will take place at Camp Butner, North Carolina on Sunday, 3 May, during the 2009 Eastern CMP Games have now been released.  The schedule includes a Pistol Fundamentals Clinic at 10:00 AM, one relay for a Service Pistol EIC (leg) Match at 1:00 PM, a second relay for Special As-Issued Military Pistol EIC (4-point) Match at 2:00 PM and a third relay for an As-Issued U. S. CMP Accepting Applications for JROTC/ROTC Scholarships - If you are or know of a JROTC high school senior or ROTC college underclass cadet in good standing who participates on a competitive rifle club or varsity team, it's time to spread the word that applications are available to apply for a one-thousand dollar CMP ROTC scholarship. Attention Highpower and Air Rifle Shooters in Southeast! The CMP will conduct its second test match for its new National Match Air Rifle discipline at the CMP Competition Center in Anniston, Alabama on 14 March.  If you live in the Southeast U. S. and are interested in an off-season event for highpower rifle shooters or are interested in finding a new recreation-oriented shooting game that is easy to start and promises to be a lot of fun, you are invited to come to Anniston on 14 March. U. S. Army Junior Open Air Rifle Postal—Last Call for Entries.  Junior shooting clubs and JROTC units have until 6 March to enter and order targets for the State Championship Postal Phase of the annual Army junior air rifle competition and until 13 March to fire and return their targets.  Team entries can be made on-line at http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/matchInfo.cgi?matchID=4148.  Entry fees are just $5 per shooter and there are no additional team fees.  In 2008, 240 teams and over 1,700 individual juniors participated in the State Championship Postal Phase.  This competition offers team and individual three-position sporter and standing precision air rifle events.  This year, awards will be given in every state.  The top ten sporter and precision state champions will qualify for the national competition, regardless of the number of entries in that state.  In addition, the top ten at-large individual competitors in the sporter and three-position events will receive invitations to Fort Benning. This year the national championship at Fort Benning will be in May.  The official match program and entry forms are posted on the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/3P/Army_Jr_Championship.htm.

This pressure generated by the primer and burning powder can do serious harm to you or others around you if something goes wrong and the hot, high pressure gasses escape through a breech in the brass cartridge case.

Text Box: 2009 Dixie Challenge - On 14 February 2009 the Civilian Marksmanship Program played host to the Dixie Challenge. This 3x20 three-position air rifle competition took place at the new CMP Competition Center-South in Anniston, Alabama, which features an 80-point air rifle range. The event drew 65 shooters and a total of 10 junior teams. In all four states were represented in the match.

Text Box: International Shooters of the Year.  Katerina Emmons, the wife of U. S. shooter Matt Emmons, was selected by a panel of international shooting sports journalists as the 2008 International Female Shooter of the Year.  

Text Box: Katerina Emmons, who competes for the Czech Republic, won gold and silver medals in the Beijing Olympic Games in women's air rifle and three-position smallbore rifle.  She also established two world records during her outstanding year of competition.  Korean pistol shooter Jin Jong Oh was selected as the 2009 Male International Shooter of the Year.  Jin won gold and silver medals in Beijing in the men's free pistol and air pistol events.  Matt Emmons finished second in the journalists' voting for male shooter of the year.  USA skeet Olympic gold medalist Vince Hancock was third in the voting.  A full report on the International Shooters of the Year and the vote totals is posted on the ISSF website at http://www.issf-shooting.org/default.aspx?mode=issf-sports&menu=99&mod=emag&pane=10.  Katerina and Matt Emmons are now looking forward to the birth of their first child in April.
 
Daisy M853 Repair Power Point added to Coaching Resources Webpage.   The CMP has developed a “Coaching Resources” webpage as a source for a wide variety of technical information on target shooting techniques, equipment and history.  A Power Point presentation prepared by Daisy Manufacturing that provides detailed, complete instructions for the take-down, maintenance, repair and reassembly of Daisy M853/853C/753/853CM pneumatic air rifles was recently added.  The presentation uses 116 slides with excellent photos to illustrate all steps in the disassembly and assembly of these air rifles.  Visit http://www.odcmp.com/CoachingResources.htm to download the Daisy M853 Repair Power Point along with other valuable resources.
