2005 CMP Rulebook is Posted On-line. The 2005 edition of the CMP Competition Rules has been approved and is now posted on-line on the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/Competitions/Rulebook.pdf. Copies of the rulebook can be downloaded and printed or printed copies of the new rulebook can be purchased from CMP Sales for $3.00 each. The new rules include several clarifications of previous rules that reflect how those rules are interpreted. The Law Enforcement category was broadened to once again include retired and auxiliary officers as well as full-time instructors in law enforcement or police academies.
National Matches Entries. On-line entries for the 2005 National Trophy Pistol and Rifle Matches have been open since early April. Printed entry booklets and entry cards were mailed by the NRA in May. Entries in all of the CMP National Matches events are coming in a steady pace and entries in some rifle events already are nearing range capacity. Only a limited number of entry spaces remain available in three rifle events; there are about 75 spaces left in the M16 EIC match, 125 spaces in the Springfield/Vintage Military Rifle Match and 200 spaces in the Garand Match. After entry spaces in these matches are filled, the CMP will continue to take entries and place them on waiting lists. With cancellations and changes occurring on a daily basis as the matches approach, many waitlist shooters can expect to move up. The CMP will also do its best to keep shooters who are initially placed on waitlists advised of their status so they can make plans accordingly. Since entry spaces in these matches are filling rapidly, it is important that shooters who want to enter any 2005 National Trophy Matches submit their entries as soon as possible. Entries can be submitted on paper using forms that were mailed, but the quickest and surest way to make an entry is to enter on-line. You may enter any 2005 CMP National Matches event through the CMP Competition Tracker at http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi. Click on “Upcoming Matches and Events,” then select the event you wish to enter and follow instructions. |

Successful Start for First Western CMP Games - 198 shooters, a majority of whom were firing in their first competition, reported to Camp Pendleton, California’s Wilcox Range firing line on 14 or 15 May to inaugurate the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s first Western CMP Games. This new national-level competition event marked a historic step forward for CMP competition programs. The CMP sanctions several hundred highpower rifle matches each year and it is well known for its role in conducting the National Trophy Rifle and Pistol Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio, but until the Western CMP Games took place, the CMP had never conducted a highpower rifle competition outside of Camp Perry and the National Matches.

Georgia 4-H Tries Sporter Rifle. The Georgia 4-H officially adopted the CMP Sporter Rifle as a state event in 2004. The State 4-H Target Sports Weekend was held 4/29-5/1, 2005 and hosted the first official Sporter Rifle state championship. The event had been enthusiastically accepted by coaches and program leaders, when it was announced, but until the big event, no one really knew how well the junior shooters would respond to this new game. |

There should never have been any doubt. In spite of pouring rain and dangerous lightning, that postponed the matches for over 6 hours some 27 hardy young shooters showed up to compete. Thirty-eight had originally registered but some were forced to leave because of the weather delay. Even in the very poor conditions which prevailed, the competition was spirited and very closely contested. The very positive comments of the shooters and their coaches after the competition suggest that next years match may very well be “sold out”. Match officials are already at work to prepare for next years match and the anticipated increase in participation. Sporter Rifle is off and running well in Georgia 4-H.
2005 National Match HP Junior Support Program. Each year, the CMP provides partial travel and expense reimbursement payments to junior highpower shooters who attend the USMC Junior Highpower Rifle Clinic or the Rifle Small Arms Firing School, fire in the National Trophy Rifle Matches and compete on a Whistler Boy Trophy Junior Team. This program encourages new junior shooters to participate in the National Trophy Rifle Matches. Eligibility is limited to two years of support payments. Additional information and application forms for this program can be viewed on our website at http://www.odcmp.com/NM/JrHPSupport.htm.
2005 National Matches Junior Smallbore Support Program. This program will provide two $150.00 National Matches Smallbore Expense Grants per state. The Expense Grants are administered through the CMP State Junior Directors (SJDs) and recipients must be selected on the basis of a competition within the state. If there is no State Junior Director, the DCM and State Association President can appoint a Grant administrator for that state (would ordinarily be the State Association Junior Director or Chairman). Juniors that receive the grants must be selected according to results in a junior smallbore competition within the state. These expense Grants are awarded to assist and encourage junior smallbore shooters who have not previously participated in the National Matches to make their first trip to Camp Perry. Detailed information about how the program will work can be found on the CMP website at http://www.odcmp.com/NM/JrSBSupport.htm. |

The USA Shooting Team made an impressive showing at the 2005 ISSF World Shotgun Championships in Lonato, Italy, claiming gold medals in men’s skeet and junior men’s double trap. In his world championship debut, 16-year-old Vincent Hancock of Eatonton, Ga., won the individual gold medal in men’s skeet with a 148, including a perfect 25 in the final, to edge Italy’s Ennio Falco by one target. SFC Todd Graves, also of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, took bronze in men’s skeet with a 146 total score followed by 26 straight in a sudden-death tie-breaker.
