Vincent Hancock named 2005 Shooter of the Year by members of the International Association of Shooting Sports Journalists.  This is the first time the honor has ever been awarded to an American.  The 16-year-old skeet shooter from Eatonton, Georgia took the international scene by storm in 2005 winning seven international medals, setting a new world record, and winning the World Championship.  For more on this story visit, http://view.exacttarget.com/?ffcb10-fe94177675620d7e75

Bob Foth named USA Shooting’s Manager of Youth Programs and Coach Development.  Foth, who is a 1992 Olympic silver medalist and former USOC Athlete’s Advisory Council representative for shooting, will replace Martin Edmondson who is retiring in mid-March.  For more information on this story go to, http://view.exacttarget.com/?ffcb10-

2006 CMP 3-Position Summer Camp Counselors Needed.  CMP is looking for nine qualified college rifle team members to work as junior camp counselors during the summer of 2006.  The position runs June 1- August 5.  Anyone seeking additional information or an application should visit the CMP website at, http://www.odcmp.com/3P/camp_counselor.htm.

CMP Military Rifle Instructor Coordinator Steve Goff Honored.  A former member of the Army Marksmanship Unit and a triple-Distinguished Marksman, Goff was inducted into his High School Hall of Fame in Leavenworth, Kansas.  He hopes that his accomplishments will inspire more young people from his alma mater to pursue their sports beyond high school and college.  Goff, who lives in Columbus, GA, currently serves as the coordinator for the CMP Military Rifle Instruction Program through which expert civilian marksman assist USAMU in training U. Selected Anschütz Rifles Now Available through CMP Affiliate Rifle Sales.  The CMP recently concluded a new agreement that will add selected Anschütz rifles to its Affiliate Rifle Sales Program. Now, target rifles made by the famed German arms maker that are especially suitable as club and team rifles and for new and intermediate level shooters can be purchased from the CMP at special club prices. For the first time, the CMP now offers a smallbore target rifle other than the government surplus target rifles that it sold previously. The National Guard Bureau (NGB) sponsors the annual NGB Junior Air Rifle Tournament to give sporter and precision class position air rifle shooters at all levels of ability a unique opportunity to test their marksmanship skills in competition with other junior shooters in their home states and throughout the nation.  The Tournament has two phases, a State Championship postal phase and a National Championship shoulder-to-shoulder phase.  All entries or requests for official targets must be sent to CMP and postmarked not later than 10Feb06.  Click on http://www.odcmp.com/3P/ngb.htm to view complete program details and a Target Order Form.

This was the case at the Southern Michigan Gun Club in Kalamazoo, Michigan who just hosted their sixth annual Snow Shoot, a CMP M1 Garand, Springfield, and Vintage Military Rifle Match.  “When we started it was really just an excuse to shoot in the middle of winter,” said John Hughes, who was one of the six participants in the club’s inaugural Snow Shoot in 2001. “It was not very formal the first year, it was just a few of us in our period uniforms, shooting vintage rifles,” said Hughes.

CMP North Store Draws in an Array of Visitors - During the National Matches competitors from all across the country flood the CMP North store in search of M1 Garand rifles and other CMP memorabilia before they make their journey home. But it is not only the summer that attracts crowds to Camp Perry, throughout the year the CMP store averages over 200 customers a week. Of those visitors, over half live outside the State of Ohio.
