WESTERN CMP GAMES COMPETITION EVENTS. Saturday, 11 October; Sunday, 12 October and Monday, 13 October.  Competitors in the Western CMP Games matches may fire one, two or three Garand, Springfield or Vintage Military Rifle Matches on the program.  Shooters may elect which events they wish to fire.  A competitor may only fire one event per day.  Competitors may fire one event each day or may enter one event a second or third time on a re-entry basis.  Competitors who enter one event more than once are eligible to win CMP Achievement medals the second or third time an event is fired, but only the first score in any event counts for plaque awards (high score, high senior, high handicap).  See CMP Competition Rule 6.3 for specific regulations on authorized rifles.  See Rule 9.0 for regulations regarding the conduct of firing.  A current copy of the CMP Competition Rules is available on the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/Competitions/Rulebook.pdf.   A current copy of the CMP Rimfire Sporter Rules is posted at http://www.odcmp.com/Competitions/rimfire.pdfAmmunition will be issued to all competitors in the Garand, Springfield, VMR and Carbine Matches; issued ammunition must be fired in the Garand, Springfield and Carbine Matches.  Not using issued ammunition in these matches is grounds for disqualification.  Vintage Military Rifle and Rimfire Sporter competitors can use any safe ammunition and must bring their own ammunition.  2008 Western CMP Games events are:

After relays 1-2 finish firing, they will go to the pits to pull targets and relays 3-4 will fire. All competitors are required to perform target scoring or target pulling duties as assigned.  Any competitors who do not do so will be disqualified.  Disabled persons may request permission to provide a substitute target puller.  One or two relays will be scheduled for the Rimfire Sporter and Carbine Matches, depending upon the number of entries.

AMMUNITION. 40 rounds of .30-06 M2 ball service ammunition will be issued to every competitor in the Garand, Springfield and VMR Matches prior to the start of each day’s firing.  Competitors who fire the Vintage Military Rifle must provide their own ammunition, but they are eligible to draw .30-06 M2 ball service ammunition since they have paid the full match entry fee.  50 rounds of Carbine ammo will be issued for the M1 Carbine Match.  Ammo will not be issued for the Rimfire Sporter Match.

ALIBIS. CMP GAMES ONLY--No alibis or re-fires because of rifle or ammunition malfunctions are allowed during any stage of these matches.  It is important that the rifle you use be clean and in good working condition to prevent malfunctions.  Shooters with manually-operated rifles should take special clear to clean their rifle chambers and do sufficient dry-fire bolt operation with their rifles to be sure they operate smoothly during rapid fire.

SPOTTING SCOPES & OTHER EQUIPMENT. Competitors and scorers may use spotting scopes for shooting or scoring.  Scopes do not need to be turned away from the target during the rapid-fire stage.  Cloth, canvas or leather shooting jackets may be used.  Standard military-issue web or leather slings or slings of this same type are permitted.  Shooting gloves or mitts and ground cloths or shooting mats may be used.  Many Garand, Springfield and Vintage Military Rifle Match competitors wear shooting jackets or military clothing from the era and country represented by the rifle they fire.  Shooting Jackets or shooting gloves are not permitted in the Rimfire Sporter Match.  All competitors and range personnel must bring their own personal hearing and eye protection and are urged to wear them whenever shooting takes place.

INEXPERIENCED COMPETITORS.  CMP Games Matches are ideal events for shooters who have not participated in previous competitions.  Shooters are permitted to coach or assist each other in these matches.  Scorers may assist the shooters who are firing with positions, slings, loading and the rules.  The Garand, Carbine and Rimfire Sporter courses of fire are challenging, but all shooters who have sufficient gun knowledge and the ability to handle these rifles safely can easily complete them.

CMP COMPETITOR RECOGNITION AND AWARDS.  All competitors in the Western CMP Games events will receive a Western CMP Games T-shirt.  Competitors who fire established scores (see “CMP Games Achievement Medals” below) will receive Western CMP Games Gold, Silver or Bronze Achievement Medals with neck ribbons.  Medals will be presented each day after firing is completed.  The CMP will award plaques recognizing the high competitor and high senior shooter in each of its six events.  High Junior awards will be presented if there are three or more juniors firing in that event.  Competitors in the As-Issued M1 Garand EIC Match who earn EIC or leg points will receive CMP EIC medals.  Plaque or other awards TBA will be presented to the high handicap shooters in the Garand, Springfield and VMR Matches.  The highest ranking EIC point winner in the As-Issued Garand EIC Match will receive a Bushmaster DCM-XR competition service rifle.

CMP GAMES ACHIEVEMENT MEDALS.  Gold, silver and bronze Western CMP Games Achievement medals will be awarded to competitors who achieve award scores listed in the chart below.  2008 CMP Games Achievement Medal scores are based on scores fired by competitors in previous National Garand, Springfield and Vintage Military Rifle Matches.  Cut-off scores are established so that approximately 40% of the match competitors can expect to earn these coveted medals.  The top one-sixth of this group earns gold, the next two-sixths earn silver and the next three-sixths earn bronze medals.  Scores in the chart are the 2008 CMP Games Achievement Award Cut Scores.

The NRA Membership toll free # is (800) 672-3888.

HOW TO ENTER. All competitors should be pre-registered. Walk on entries may be accepted if range space is available, but there is a $10 late fee for walk-on entries.
