Camp Perry, Ohio
15 – 17 January 2010

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) invites you to participate in the fourth annual Camp Perry Open. This year’s match will include a three-position air rifle competition, an international air rifle (all standing) event, a pistol course of fire, and optional clinics at Camp Perry, Ohio. The match will be held on 15 -17 January 2010.

CMP Competition Center North.

The new Competition Center is a major part of a “Joint Use Training Facility” that the Ohio National Guard and CMP constructed jointly in 2008. It is located on the east side of Camp Perry’s Petrarca Range. The Center has a common area with classrooms, offices, restrooms and a foyer. The south side houses expanded engagement skills training facilities to be used by the Ohio National Guard to train military personnel. The larger north end of the facility is a 20,000 sq. foot state-of-the-art air gun range. The Competition Center has 80 firing points, each equipped with MEGALink electronic targets. All shots are instantly displayed on monitors beside each shooter and on display screens visible to spectators in the center area of the range. All firing is controlled by a computer operations center in the middle of the range. For this competition, there will be live viewing on the CMP website of scores and shot groups. A link will be provided at www.odcmp.com at the time of the competition.

COMPETITION EVENTS.

Junior Clinic – On Saturday 16 January 2010, there will be a clinic for interested junior shooters. The clinic will run from 5:30-8:15 PM. Those wishing to attend should pre-register. The cost will only be $10, which will cover the cost of pizza provided from 5-5:30pm. There is a limit of 60 junior shooters for this clinic. There will be on-the-line training provided by the members of the U. S. National/Development Team, as well as from the Army Marksmanship Team. Shooters will be randomly assigned to work with instructors. The culmination of this event will be a 20 shot standing competition where the juniors are handicapped according to their 3x20 standing portion/the first 20 shots of their 60 shot standing match.

3x20 Junior Air Rifle – This event is governed by the National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules, and participants must be juniors who are eligible in accordance with Rule 3.1. The match will include a 3x20 on either Friday night from 6:00-8:00pm or Saturday morning from 8:00-10:00am. Finals for the top eight in both sporter and precision will be held immediately after both relays. Only the top eight from both days will have their final’s scores factored into the final results. The three position competition is limited to 150 competitors. EIC award points will be awarded at this competition. More information about the EIC program can be found here: http://www.odcmp.com/3P/EICProgram.pdf. Individual and team awards will be given out for both sporter and precision classes. Participants must have completed safety and basic marksmanship training to include some work in each of the three positions. We encourage all advanced juniors who are interested to also compete in the international course of fire competition. This is the same course of fire that is shot in college matches for air rifle! We also encourage beginners to stay and watch the competition.

Standing Matches:

Men’s and Women’s Air Rifle – The air rifle event is open to both men and women of all ages. It is a two day event where competitors will fire 60 standing shots in accordance with USA Shooting rules. A final will be held each day for the top eight open and junior categories. The finals will be held concurrently, so if a junior qualifies in both finals, they will be squadded with open final shooters. This is a precision rifle event. There is a limit of 110 shooters for this competition.

Men’s and Women’s Air Pistol – The air pistol event is open to both men and women of all ages. It is a two day event where competitors will fire 60 shots in accordance with USA Shooting rules. A final will be held each day for the top eight open and junior categories. The finals will be held concurrently, so if a junior qualifies in both finals, they will be squadded with open final shooters. There is a limit of 30 shooters for this competition.

Super Final – There will be a super final at the conclusion of finals on Sunday. The super final/guts match will have a monetary prize associated with it. The super final will pair the top 16 males and top 16 female shooters shooting a 10 shot final. Next, the top eight from the men and women will be paired in a bracket style tournament. Both the men and women will be seeded 1-8. The #1 male will be paired with the #8 female, the #2 male vs. the #7 female, #1 female vs. #8 male, etc. The pairings will be squadded next to each other at the start of the super final. The final will then be fired one shot at a time like a traditional final. The overall score for each shot does not matter, but rather each shot will count for a point. If shooter A shoots a 10.3 and shooter B shoots a 10.4, shooter B receives one point. This will continue until one shooter in the pair obtains five points to move to the next round. There will be five rounds of shooting until we have crowned the Super Final Champion.

Additional Note:
The U. S. National Team coaches, Maj. David Johnson and Sergey Luzov, are planning on sending some of the National Team members/ National Development Team members come to this competition and shoot in the International course of fire. The Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) is also sending some of their best to shoot in the International standing course of fire event as well. There will also be members of current NCAA rifle teams in attendance. This is a great opportunity to see some of the best shooters in the US compete!

SQUADDING.

For the 3x20 event, please indicate on your registration which relay you would prefer to fire on. We will try to honor all squadding requests, but relays will be filled in order that entries are received. We will fill the Saturday relay first unless Friday night is requested. We will also try to squad all teams together on the firing line. Squadding will be posted on-line for all entries we have by Tuesday, 12 January. Any entries received after that time will be given their squadding after we process the request.

Squadding for first day of the international events will be assigned randomly and will be posted in the range the day of competition. Squadding for the second day will be done by score, and will be posted in the range Sunday morning.

RULES.

3x20 - The competition will be governed by the 2008-2010 National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules. Copies of the rules may be downloaded from the CMP website at http://www.odcmp.com/3P/Rules.pdf.

60 Shot Air Rifle Matches – The competition will be governed by the USAS Rifle Rules. The exception to these rules is that women will be shooting the 60 shot course of fire. Copies of the rules may be downloaded from the USA Shooting website at http://www.usashooting.com/rulebook.php.

60 Shot Air Pistol Matches – The competition will be governed by the USAS Pistol Rules. The exception to these rules is that women will be shooting the 60 shot course of fire. Copies of the rules may be downloaded from the USA Shooting website at http://www.usashooting.com/rulebook.php.

Clear Barrel Indicator (CBI).
CBI’s will be required in the Marksmanship Center, in concert with CMP intent to promote the use of these devices. The CBI is a length of string trimmer line that is inserted through the bore, with ends protruding from the muzzle and the chamber. CBI’s provide visual confirmation that the air gun is unloaded. CBI’s must be inserted after rifles are uncased and when not firing or in preparation period. CBI’s will be available on the range for those that do not have them.
